Customer Experiences - Gareth Cameron Gareth knows his onions Gareth is determined to break the world record for the Biggest Ever Onion, with the help of an Air-Pot container. Prize-winning onion grower, Gareth Cameron, from Cumbria has been astonished by the Air-Pot effect. Last year he made a direct comparison, growing his prize onions first in 1Litre Air-Pot containers, potting up into a 30L. Each was set alongside the standard containers he has always used in the past. The Air-Pot grown onions were 20% bigger in the same period of time, right across the crop. The air-pruning of every single root – something that only the Air-Pot can deliver, on account of the combination of inward pointing cones directing all roots towards and air hole – continually develops more and more healthy roots. More roots carry more water and nutrient up into the plant and speed up growth. As he builds up towards his record-breaking challenge, he plans to pot on again from the 30L Air-Pot into a 115L. In order to break the world record the onion’s weight will have to exceed 17lbs 8oz and will have a circumference in excess of approximately 77cm and height over 61cms! Gareth may appear to be a gentle chap, happy to be busying himself in his greenhouse. But we are not fooled – he and his rivals in the prize veg growing world are fierce and calculating competitors. We shall be watching closely...from a distance! Needless to say it is not just onions which enjoy the Air-Pot growing environment. You will notice healthier tomatoes, potatoes, herbs, shrubs and trees, whatever the size from seed to maturity. |
