Members of this on line gardening community were offered the chance to participate in an Air-Pot vegetable growing trial in 2009. The majority opted to grow Tender crops in greenhouses others chose to test the Potato Towers. In all cases the Air-Pot grown crops were compared to those in alternative containers and planters.
The trial commenced late in the growing season, in May, and some of the comparative crops were already underway. However, the Air-Pot grown plants established quickly and produced quality crops. Here are a few comments and pics.
“The rate of growth of the tomato plants I grew in the Air-Pot containers was phenomenal as they were planted 6wks later than the tomato plants in the normal pots. Within 3-4wks they very nearly grew to the same height, within 8wks they had grown taller. The volume and quantity of the crops grown in the air-pot containers were outstanding."
“Actual crop of potatoes (Maris Piper) was to a high standard in terms of condition; however, volume was slightly less than those planted directly in the veg patch. I put it down to the pots being 3 weeks or so behind the main ground plants and the relatively poor soil conditions in the pots”
“3 Desiree potatoes were put in each of the 2 Air-Pot containers, 3 into a plastic bin of the same volume and 3 into the ground. They all had the same growing medium. One of the Air-Pot containers and the plastic bin was given Growmore at each earthing up. The end result showed that the crop in the Air-Pot container that had been fed, outdid the others noticeably. The potatoes were larger and cleaner. Well pleased with them.”
